has gloss | eng: The language or languages which underlie the undeciphered Linear A texts, found written on clay tablets on Crete and neighboring islands. Possibly related to the non-Indoeuropean language called Eteo-Cretan which appears written in Greek characters during classical times. The script appears in the Middle Minoan period (1700 - 1550 BC), and seems to have been the basis of the Linear B script, which was used to write Mycenaean Greek, for many of the symbols resemble each other. Circa 1800 and 1450 BC. |
