has glosseng: Waldbaums is a supermarket chain in New York, especially dominant on Long Island and the New York City boroughs of Brooklyn, Queens, and Staten Island. It started in 1904 as a shop run by Sam and Wolf Waldbaum in Brooklyn. Their nephew immigrated to America and joined the business. Izzy, worked with his Uncles until they retired. At that time, he took over the operation of one grocery store. Izzy married his sweetheart Julia Leffel and they had three children. When Izzy died at age 55, his son Ira took over the operation of the existing 6 stores. Ira ran the business until the sale in 1986. His mother Julia became the corporate spokesperson, touring stores, attending grand-openings and appearing on most Waldbaums-branded products. Julia also published Waldbaums recipe books and appeared in print ads well into her senior years.
