A sniper team typically consists of a sniper and a spotter as described in military doctrines of the United States, Canada and United Kingdom. Both members can perform either role and often rotate between the two. The sniper fires the shot while the spotter assists in observation of targets, atmospheric conditions and handles security of their immediate location and communication with other parties, including directing artillery fire and close air support.

has gloss	ita: Uno Sniper team è una piccolissima unità militare, costituita ordinariamente da due soldati (lo sniper e lo spotter), utilizzata dalla dottrina militare di Stati Uniti dAmerica, Canada e Regno Unito in operazioni di "guerra di cecchini", ma anche in talune operazioni speciali di polizia. In realtà, entrambi gli operatori hanno la qualifica di tiratore scelto, ma si avvicendano nei due ruoli accennati. Ciò avviene per varie ragioni, ad esempio alleviare laffaticamento oculare dello spotter (in seguito alla prolungata osservazione), e l'affaticamento delle braccia del tiratore (che talora deve mantenere il suo fucile in posizione di "approntamento" per tempi considerevoli).
