has glosseng: Kolathiri or Kolathiri Rājā (King of Kolathunādu) was the title by which the senior most male along the matilinial line of the Mushika or Kolathunādu Royal Family (Kolaswarũpam) was styled . The Sangam Literature such as Patittupattu, Purananooru, Akananooru mention the Tamil kings called Nannans the Kings of Ezhimalai. The Royal family, alternatively known as the Kulyas, Kolis, Kolwas, the Velirs, Ezhimala, Kolaswarũpam, Mũshika Vamsham, Nannāns of Ezhimala etc, had its seat at Ezhimala in Kerala, India and was one of the major political houses which became prominent in Kerala after the disappearance of the Kulasekharas or Perumāl rulers of Mahodayapuram by the twelfth century AD . The Nannans were followed by Mooshaka Vamsham who started practising Matriarchy in the 12th century as stated in the book Mooshika Vamsham written by Athulan .
