has gloss | eng: The cat head is a beam projecting from each side of the bows of a ship, almost horizontally. It is designed for the purpose of raising the anchor from the surface of the water to the deck without touching the bows, and for carrying the anchor on its stock-end when suspended outside the ships side. It is furnished with sheaves at the outer end, and the inner end (which is called the cats-tail) fits down on the cat-beam. The cat stopper also fastens the anchor on. |
