has gloss | eng: Cavity walls consist of two skins separated by a hollow space (cavity). The skins are commonly masonry such as brick or concrete block. Masonry is an absorbent material, and therefore will slowly draw rainwater or even humidity into the wall. The cavity serves as a way to drain this water back out through weep holes in the base of the wall system. A cavity wall with masonry as both inner and outer skins more commonly referred to as a double wythe masonry wall. |

has gloss | nld: | |- | |} Een spouwmuur is een muur met een open ruimte (spouw) tussen het binnen- en buitenblad. De spouw voorkomt vochtdoorslag van buiten naar binnen. Geschiedenis De spouwmuur komt in Nederland voor het eerst voor na 1930, veelal nog op gebrekkige en beperkte wijze. Het volledig als spouwmuur uitvoeren van gemetselde buitenmuren werd pas in 1960 in Nederland verplicht door een wijziging van de Modelbouwverordening omdat er in dat natte jaar zeer veel problemen werden geconstateerd met vochtdoorslaande gevels. Volgens Jellema is het bouwen met spouwmuren begin twintigste eeuw begonnen. De oudste bekende spouwmuur in Nederland is aangetroffen in het huis Ten Bosch te Maarssen in de provincie Utrecht, 1627, in 1726 in Amsterdam, Gemeenlandshuis Zeeburg. |
