rdfs:commentThe Michigamea (Mihshikamiia) were members of the Miami-Illinois-speaking Illinois alliance. In 1673, Marquette and Joliet needed a translator from Miami-Illinois in order to understand the Michigamea. Later, in the mid 18th century, Jean-BĂ©nard Bossu, in his Nouveaux voyages aux Indes Occidentales, quotes in passing two sentences which <A HREF="http://saussure.linguistlist.org/cfdocs/new-website/LL-WorkingDirs/people/personal/get-personal-page2.cfm?PersonID=620">John Koontz</A> suggests indicate that Michigamea was a Siouan language, of the Mississippi subgroup.
